U2 était en 1993 au sommet de son art, entraîné dans la spirale de Zoo TV et dans un délire créatif qu’il n’égalera plus jamais par la suite. La chanson Zooropa est l’aboutissement du concept, un chef d’oeuvre futuriste et la synthèse d’une tournée hors norme.
Les Irlandais nous offrent ici un titre exceptionnel et hors du temps, superbe dans sa construction avec cette lente introduction de plus de deux minutes et ce tempo final qui s’emballe, brillant dans son texte construit à partir de slogans publicitaires, et unique dans sa production avec ses sons de guitares électroniques venus d’ailleurs. Avec Zooropa U2 touche au sublime durant six minutes trente. Son apparition inattendue, toutes lumières éteintes, lors du 360° Tour avait été une des belles surprises de cette tournée. Et même son seul couplet chanté en Europe lors du I+E Tour en 2015 en introduction de Streets était parfaitement à propos.
On salue au passage l’audace de commencer une chanson par une phrase en allemand, une langue trop souvent négligée dans nos sociétés décadentes.
